Dr. Terri Kennedy Leads Workshops for Central Harlem Health Revival
On Tuesday, September 30th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy participated in two events for the Central Harlem Health Revival. She led an interactive session on Stress and its relationship with Heart Disease & Stroke at Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem. Then, she led a session on Stress and its relationship with Cancer at Mother African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Harlem.

Dr. Terri Kennedy is Participates in Central Harlem Health Revival Kickoff Event
On Sunday, September 28th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy participated in the Central Harlem Health Revival Kickoff Event. She participated in the Health Walk, and then provided inspiration and breathing techniques at the conclusion at Riverbank State Park. The Central Harlem Health Revival was created by the Borough of Manhattan Ecumenical Advisory Group to motivate Central Harlem residents to adopt healthier lifestyles, and provide tools and information to empower community residents to advocate for themselves.

Dr. Terri Kennedy is Participates in Alliance for a Healthier Generation Event
On Saturday, September 27th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy participated in the Alliance for a Healthier Generation event in New York. She inspired the young people to live healthier lives, including sharing advice on eating and sleeping habits and showing them ways to keep in shape. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is a partnership between the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation. The goal of the Alliance is to stop the nationwide increase in childhood obesity by 2010 and to empower kids nationwide to make healthy lifestyle choices.

Dr. Terri Kennedy is Moderates Panel for Yoga Journal Colorado Conference
From Thursday, September 25th through Saturday, September 27th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy participated in the 2008 Yoga Journal Colorado Conference held at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado. Once again, Dr. Kennedy moderated a Continuing Education panel entitled "Handle With Care: Ahimsa in Asana" with yoga pioneers John Friend, Judith Hanson Lasater, Aadil Palkhivala, and Rod Stryker.

Dr. Terri Kennedy is Nutrition Expert for the S.P.I.C.E. Program
Starting on Thursday, September 18th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy will be participating in a program called S.P.I.C.E. (Supporting Pre-Conception Individuals through Cultural, Cooking, and Coping Essentials). She is nutrition expert providing education and demonstrations to the women in the program. The program is being administered through CAMBA, one of Brooklyn's largest, most comprehensive social service agencies. The intention is to address the pre-conception health of the most at-risk Caribbean, African-American, African, and Latina women in central Brooklyn as a preventive measure to instill healthy habits that would continue when and if these women become pregnant. The program will run through the end of 2008.

Power Living Enterprises, Inc. Awarded Contract with NYC Department of Parks & Recreation
Power Living Enterprises, Inc. once again was awarded a contract with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation to teach yoga techniques as a part of the special "Shape Up New York" program. The program encourages families to get in shape by joining free fitness programs throughout the city. Dr. Terri Kennedy will continue to offer free yoga classes every Wednesday at P.S. 154 on 250 West 127th Street (between 7th and 8th) in Harlem. The contract runs from August 2008 - August 2009.

Dr. Terri Kennedy Speaks at the Harlem 5K "Health Walk-A-Thon"
On Saturday, August 23rd, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy participated in the Harlem 5K "Health Walk-A-Thon." She walked the 2-mile historic stretch and then provided inspiration, chair yoga techniques and healthy living tips for the walkers on behalf of Harlem's Healthy Living Initiative and the American Heart Association.

Dr. Terri Kennedy Presents Honor to Tao Porchon-Lynch on behalf of Yoga Alliance
On Saturday, August 16th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy was a special guest at the 90th birthday celebration for Tao Porchon-Lynch and presented her with a special honor on behalf of Yoga Alliance. One of the first women to study under yoga master B. K. S. Iyengar, Tao has practiced yoga for more than 60 years and has taught in India, France, and the United States. Dr. Kennedy had the pleasure of taking a teacher's workshop with Tao and she has been a fan ever since. Asthanga yoga master David Swenson also joined the celebration. Tao showed off her tango and ballroom dancing skills.

On Monday, August 11th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy spoke at the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York. She led an interactive workshop on the "Body-Mind-Spirit Connection" for their incoming class of medical students.

On Sunday, June 22nd, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy spoke at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition graduation. She inspired the newly-minted Holistic Health Counselors to focus on their passions and build thriving health coaching practices. The ceremony was held at Lincoln Center's Rose Hall within the Time Warner Center in New York.

Dr. Terri Kennedy Named National Spokesperson for the American Heart Association
On June 19, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy joined a select group of American Heart Association/American Stroke Association volunteers to serve on the National Spokespersons Panel during 2008-2009. This group of nationally renowned scientists, physicians, and other experts has been identified by fellow volunteers and staff to represent the association in interviews with national media and, when appropriate, regional/local media outlets. As National Spokesperson for the Search Your Heart Program, Dr. Kennedy will be educating the public about their risk for cardiovascular disease and stroke, giving them the tools and information they need to help lower their risk.

Dr. Terri Kennedy Leads 5th Annual Spirit of Feathers Retreat
From Friday, June 20th through Sunday, June 22nd, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy facilitated the 5th Annual Spirit of Feathers Retreat at the St. Alphonsus retreat house in Poughkeepspie, New York. The non-profit organization mentors young girls and women of color who are healing in some aspect of spirit, mind and body. The theme this year was "Soaring to New Heights."

Dr. Terri Kennedy Partcipates in The Abyssinian Bicentennial Walk
On Saturday, June 7th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy participated in The Abyssinian Bicentennial Walk "Retracing Our Steps." The 11-mile walk revisited all the previous locations of The Abyssinian Baptist Church during its 200 year history, with history-making plaque unveiling ceremonies at each site. The church's first location, from 1808-1854, was 40 Worth (Anthony) Street in Lower Manhatten. The second location, from 1863-1903, was in Greenwich Village at 166 Waverly Place. The third location, from 1903-1923, was in Midtown at 140-46 West 40th Street. The current location is at 132 Odell Clark Place (West 138th Street) in Harlem.

Dr. Terri Kennedy Speaks at National Association of Negro Business & Professional Women Event
On Friday, June 6th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy was the keynote speaker for the National Association of Negro Business & Professional Women 50th Northeast District Conference in Buffalo, New York. The theme for this year was "Commitment to Excellence: The Art of Business & Professional Success." She spoke about healthy living with a focus on heart health and stroke prevention on behalf of the American Heart Association.

Dr. Terri Kennedy Leads Workshop for Youth Revival at Abyssinian
On Saturday, May 31st, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy led a workshop on "Finding Your Life Purpose" for the Youth and Young Adult Revival at Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York. The theme for the weekend event was "This is Why I'm Hot: On Fire For Christ." She was joined by guest preachers, Reverend Elizabeth Siwo and Reverend BeSean Jackson. In addition to the workshops, worship and fellowship, there was a block party.

Dr. Terri Kennedy Speaks at National Institutes of Health
From Monday, May 19th through Friday, May 23rd, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy participated in the National Institutes of Health's Yoga Week in Washington, D.C. On Friday the 23rd, she gave a keynote speech on "Yoga as a Corporate Stress Management Tool." The National Institutes of Health, a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the primary Federal agency for conducting and supporting medical research.

Dr. Terri Kennedy Moderates Panel for Yoga Journal Conference
From Friday, May 16th through Monday, May 19th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy participated in the Yoga Journal Conference in Boston. In addition to attending a variety of sessions on behalf of Yoga Alliance, she once again moderated the Continuing Education panel entitled, "Handle With Care: Ahimsa in Asana." The esteemed panel included yogis Ana Forrest, Gary Kraftsow and Aadil Palkhivala.

Dr. Terri Kennedy Receives Cheerios Sisters Saving Hearts Award 
On Tuesday, May 13th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy received the 2008 Cheerios Sisters Saving Hearts grant award for her work to raise awareness for heart disease prevention particularly among black women. She will be donating her $5,000 grant to the American Heart Association's Cultural Health Initiative in New York City to support Harlem Healthy Living (HHL) Initiative. One of the educational modules is stress and heart disease. The award was presented by Cheerios and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

On Monday, May 5th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy participated in the American Heart Association's Lobby Day. The issues in Albany this year were nutrition and physical education in schools; improving the chain of survival; and tobacco control.

Dr. Terri Kennedy Leads Workshops at Power Weekend 
On Saturday, May 3rd, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy led a series of workshops for the American Heart Association's Power Weekend at the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia. It was a forum for key opinion leaders — Power Ambassadors — to network and share ideas for propelling AHA's "Power To End Stroke" movement forward. It was an inspirational event which unveiled successes and awarded Ambassadors who have dramatically heightened stroke awareness among African Americans.

Dr. Terri Kennedy Leads Annual Board Meeting for Yoga Alliance
From Friday, April 4th through Sunday, April 6th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy led the Annual Board Meeting for Yoga Alliance - the national non-profit that sets the standards for yoga teaching in the United States. At the bi-annual meeting held in the Washington, D.C. area, she was re-elected to another three-year term on the Board and continues as Chair of the Board.

Dr. Terri Kennedy Participates in Women's Wellness Workshop
On Saturday, March 29th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy led a stress management/healthy living session for the "Women's Wellness Workshop" at Harden Memorial CME Church in the Bronx. The fundraising event was coordinated by the church's Young Adult Council and a portion of the proceeds were donated to UNICEF's initiative to provide the proper nutritional equipment and foods to children in Africa and around the world.

Dr. Terri Kennedy Attends Women of Distinction Award Ceremony
On Thursday, March 27th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy attended the Second Annual Women of Distinction Award Ceremony hosted by the New York Regional Chapter of the National Association of Health Services Executives. The event honored two of Dr. Kennedy's supporters and yoga students, Vickie Powell at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital and Patricia Butts, First Lady of Abyssinian Baptist Church.

On Tuesday, March 25th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy attended the Inner City Economic Leadership Event at the legendary Apollo Theater. Co-hosted by Harvard Business School professor Michael E. Dr. Terri Kennedy Speaks at SNMA Medical Education Conference
On Saturday, March 22nd, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy led two workshops for the 43rd SNMA Annual Medical Education Conference (AMEC) in New York. It is consistently the largest gathering of underrepresented minority medical students at any time of the year in any place in the nation.  Part of AMEC's mission is to address the needs of underserved communities and increase the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent and socially conscious physicians. This year's conference theme was "Leadership in Medicine: Science to Service."

Dr. Terri Kennedy Receives "Women Who Dare To Be Different" Award
On Saturday, March 15th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy received the "Women Who Dare To Be Different" Award given by Congressman Edolphus "Ed" Towns and The Women's Caucus. She was honored for her work in health literacy, and her accomplishments were added to the Congressional Record. The awards brunch took place at Fleur De Lis in Ridgewood, New York. Dr. Terri Kennedy Attends Symposium on Yoga Therapy and Research
From Thursday, March 6th through Sunday, March 9th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy attended the Second Annual Symposium on Yoga Therapy and Research (SYTAR) in Los Angeles. The conference brought together professional Yoga teachers, Yoga therapists, Yoga researchers and health professionals who use Yoga in their work. It also showcased important new research and addresses business and public policy issues facing Yoga as an emerging complementary healthcare discipline.

Dr. Terri Kennedy Attends The 2008 Go Red for Women Luncheon
On Friday, February 29th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy attended the 2008 Go Red for Women Luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria. It marked the ninth anniversary of New York City’s women of influence joining together to raise awareness and funds to support education and research programs specifically targeted to address heart disease and stroke in women on behalf of the American Heart Association. Martha Stewart was the 2008 honoree, and there was a special performance by Judy Gold, comedian, writer and actress.

Dr. Terri Kennedy Leads Power To End Stroke Workshop for Macy's
On Tuesday, February 26th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy led a Power to End Stroke Workshop for Macy's in New York on behalf of the American Heart Association. She inspired employees of Macy's to live better lives and gave them tips on healthy living and practical techniques they could use every day.

On Tuesday, February 12th, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy participated in the 2008 GHCC HEALTHY EATING AND LIVING (HEAL) Kick-off Conference at the Marriott Marquis in New York. HEAL is a new year long initiative of The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce in concert with Congressman Charles B. Rangel and The City of New York, which has been created to help the residents and businesses of Upper Manhattan and of the Harlem's around the world to live healthier and more productive lives.

On Saturday, February 2nd, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy attended the 57th Anniversary Gala Celebration of the New York State Association of Minister's Wives & Widows. The semi-formal luncheon took place at the Chateau Briand in Long Island. She attended in support of Sherri Holman, from the American Heart Association, who received the "Essential Piece of Christian Service" Award.

, 2008, Dr. Terri Kennedy participated in The Second Annual Search Your Heart Sunday... Go Healthy Monday... NYC Ministers' Wives Retreat. During the two days, she led a series of sessions including "A Personal Moment: Meditation & Relaxation," "Identifying your Life Purpose," "Nutritional Facts" and the closing "What Now...?" call-to-action segment. Sponsored by the American Heart Association, this event brought together the First Ladies/wives of some of the most prominent preachers in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx. The retreat was held at the Edith Macy Conference Center in Briarcliff Manor.
